Knightstone Housing is a leading housing association in Somerset and the West of England, committed to building vibrant, stable and safe communities where people can make their homes. We provide services to over 23,000 people in 11,000 homes, and build around 300 homes a year.

We understand that houses are purely buildings with ambition, they want to be homes and for that to happen they must have life breathed into them. Home is at the very heart of what we do. Put simply - we house people, people make homes. People also bring with them the potential for community, but communities must be nurtured, allowed to grow and shape themselves.

Our role goes beyond housing, we actively empower residents. We bring people together in shared spaces and have a responsibility to care for the communities we create and also offer support to tenants that find themselves in difficulty. The Tenancy Sustainment Team is a support service for our residents. We offer support tailored to meet our customers’ needs and their situation. There are a multitude of things we can support with, which might include some of the following:

  •          budgeting advice

  •          support with understanding and claiming benefits including Universal Credit

  •          support with appeals & tribunals

  •          advice and support around managing and maintaining your tenancy

  •          maximising income entitlement

  •          advice and support around how to move

  •          support with finding employment, training or education

  •          applying for grants

  •          support to access specialist services such as Social Services, Occupational Therapists, GP’s, Debt Advise

We work closely with other departments within Knightstone and alongside them are able to offer support with any issues our tenants may be finding difficult to manage alone.

We advise on issues such as homelessness and the threat of homelessness, housing benefit, universal credit housing costs, rent arrears, landlord & tenant problems, private renting, repossession action by landlords and security of tenure.

We also advise people in relation to applications for social housing and supported accommodation as well as issues such as overcrowding, poor housing conditions & disrepair and housing issues caused by relationship breakdown, domestic abuse, racial and other types of harassment.

Our main focus is helping people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, or living in unsuitable / unsafe accommodation and in need of re-housing.  We prioritise those who are most vulnerable or who have had difficulty accessing other advice services.

Our Advice Workers endeavour to work with people until the situation is resolved.  If CHAS (Bristol) is unable to resolve a particular issue for someone, we will help them to access a service that can help.

We operate our service by telephone, email, home visits and outreach appointments in central Bristol. We take requests for advice, and referrals, by telephone and email:

We run short, vocational training courses aimed at increasing skills and job prospects, delivering accredited and non-accredited training provision, careers advice and guidance to the local community. We work with learners and employers to create and deliver life-changing opportunities, remove barriers and supply outstanding teaching, learning and assessment activities.

Ways2Work is the Bristol City Council team to help people into or back into work.  We run a network of organisations working in the ‘Back-to-Work’ sector in Bristol and the West of England and help to link them together to make one website where anyone looking for work can get help to find a job, a better job or a career.

We link employers, the back-to-work sector and people seeking work together by email, through our website www.ways2work.org.uk and via social media.

We work together with others to produce a series of job fairs and advice days over the year.  Job fairs are a good way to meet with and talk to an employer before the application stage – and less scary too!
